Ma'alot (Cologne, 2011)
The Karavan Ensemble were invited to make a site-specific performance in response to Ma’alot, a sculptural work by landscape artist Dani Karavan as part of the piece's 25 year anniversary celebrations. The piece, completed in 1986, was created in partnership with the Museum’s architects Peter Busmann and Godfrid Haberer, and evolved from an intention to retain a sense of emptiness in a public space which marks the most central and well-trodden space in Köln.
In a direct response, the Ensemble created a choreography that directed the movement and gaze of the audience throughout the entire landscape. Pedestrians and cyclists were stopped in their tracks as we interrupted the busy thoroughfare between the train station, river and cathedral.

A light through the night (Brighton 2010)
'…we arrived and watched an avant-garde dance in which women with the long gowns and opiated stares of Edgar Allan Poe heroines performed with a series of household lamps (…) Dreamlike as well as surreal, it suggested the sort of obsession that strikes in the small hours.'

A Ship of Fools (Brighton, 2010)
"We are in a kind of dream world, an imagination space, a mood-space, an atmosphere where the fourth wall has fallen and yet is also strangely a kind of ghost haunting the experience… The fourth wall is tossed about on this sea of invention… It’s full of heart, warmth and welcome.'
